At Home Fun for Kids
Spring break is nearly halfway over here in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and if your running out of ideas to keep the kiddos entertained, we’ve got your back. Keep reading for some fun spring break activities you and the kids can do right at home (and not break the bank).
Tic-Tac-Toe Frisbee
Get the kids away from those screens and outside by playing some Tic-Tac Toe Frisbee. Grab a cheap shower curtain and some tape from the dollar store to make the Tic-Tac-Toe grid. Mark a line for the kids to throw behind. Set out 6 frisbees and see who has the best aim! (it’s not as easy as it sounds!)
5 Minute Bird Feeders
For this fun craft you will need pine cones, (hopefully you still have some left over from the holidays, but if not you can find them at craft stores), peanut butter, bird seed and string. Have the kids roll the pine cone in the peanut butter, then in the bird seed. Tie a string around the top and voila! Easy, fun bird feeders! Your kids will also love picking out their very own spot to put the feeders!
Paint with Bubbles
Grab some paper, bubbles, bubble wands, some dye, and get those children bubble painting! First things first, put the bubble liquid into separate containers. You can use any coloring. Egg dye, powder dye, or inks (sugar based food dyes won’t work too well). Have your kids pick out what colors they want and start coloring your bubble liquid. Place a piece of paper on the ground and blow the bubbles from a short distance away from the paper. PSA: Make sure you do this outside! It can get very messy! You can put leaves or paper shapes on the paper before the bubble blowing starts to make fun stencils.
Recycled Crayons
Give those old, broken crayons new life with this easy project. Take the paper of all the old crayons you wish to use. Grease a muffin tin and let your kiddos fill up the tin with the broken crayons. Mix colors for a fun effect. Once the tins are 1/3 to 1/2 full, set outside in direct sun for 30 minutes to an hour, or until they’ve completely melted. If it’s to chilly still to melt the crayon outside, you can put them in the oven at a low temperature. Once the crayons have all melted together, let them cool. After they have completely cooled, pull them out of the muffin tin. The kids will be excited to see all the colors swirled together and will have fun with their “new” crayons they helped make!
DIY Laser Maze
This activity is super fun and SO easy. The only things you will need for this one is crepe paper and tape and a hallway. Start taping the crepe paper back and forth down the hallway, going side to side, up and down, high to low. This will create a “laser maze” your kids will have to try and navigate through without touching the paper, just like in the spy movies!
No Mess Painting
Do the kids want to paint, but you don’t want to clean it up? There’s a simply and easy solution for that. Trim some card stock to fit in a Ziploc bag, and squeeze in different colors of paint. Zip up the bag and have the kids drag their fingers around the paper to spread the paint, and you have easy artwork with easy cleanup!
