Boerne Fresh: Our Picks from the Farmers Market at the Cibolo
A Hill Country town is only as good as its Farmers Market…right?
If access to homegrown and handmade treasures truly is the measure of an authentic small-town experience, we can proudly say that Boerne is a bona fide Texas treasure.
In case you haven’t managed to swing by the Farmers Market at the Cibolo yet (the 2018 season began on March 3rd), we’re here to push you out the door and dispel the whole “it’s not worth it to wake up before noon on a Saturday” thing.
Trust us, it is.
From local honey to farm-fresh eggs (yes, ugh, they ARE better) to baked goods to veggies and produce galore, the Farmers Market at the Cibolo is a veritable gem among Farmers Markets, offering genuinely high-quality products made by local hands in local fields. (All in a gorgeous area, might we add: the historic homestead overlooks 60 acres of wild, open lands, marked trails, and wildlife habitats.)
Every Saturday from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM (rain or shine), the Historic Herff Farm hosts artisans and farmers selling all things local. Admission is free, and friendly pets on leashes are welcome.
So, in case you’re a Farmers Market newbie, we figured we’d give you a few tips to get you started. Below are a few of our favorite vendors and products, from scratch-made goodies to local wine and candles.

Handcrafted Harvest: Jams & Jellies
With spreadable flavors like “Red Velvet” and “Savannah Peach,” we’d agree with local blogger Jolene Navarro when she says, “The hardest part with Handcrafted Harvest Jam is picking just one or two!”
Quantum Coffee Roasters: Specialty Coffee

Offering a radically tasty (and high-quality) alternative, Zanzenberg Farm is a local organic farm that specializes in pork and poultry. The farm prioritizes pasture-based, non-GMO, corn and soy-free meats…all while utilizing an ecological approach to livestock and pasture management. Trust us: the pork chops and breakfast sausage are melt-in-your-mouth good It tastes good to be ethical.
Spengler Farmstead: Baked Goods
Touted as a “Backyard Farm & Kitchen,” Spengler Farmstead is our favorite stop for fresh-baked breads and treats. Tip: If it’s available, we highly recommend the Peach cobbler.

Stieler Farms: Black Angus & Wagyu Beef
It wouldn’t be a Texas Farmers Market without some food ‘ol naturally-raised, custom-fed beef. Specializing in black angus & wagyu beef, Stieler Farms claims “not just Texas Hill Country beef…The BEST Texas Hill Country beef.”
Red Door Creamery: Goat’s Milk & Cheese

Rockin C Canning – Raw & Local Honey
Did you know that eating local honey can help alleviate your allergies? Medicine never tasted so good. We recommend Rockin C Canning (from Medina Lake) for their flavor-infused honey. Also, the Apple Pie version is out-of-this-world!
