Prepare Your Home for Your Vacation
Prepare Your Home for Your Vacation
It’s Summertime and before you know it, it will be over. Time to get in that one last vacation before school starts, fall hits or whatever will keep you from the beach! But before you leave, make sure that your home will be able to take care of itself while you are gone. Prepare your home for your vacation by keeping it safe and everything running the way it should.
- South Texas Summers can be brutal so make sure your sprinkler system is working efficiently or arrange for lawn care service. Depending on how long you may be away from home, you might want to also arrange for the lawn care service to mow and trim your yard.
- If you will be gone for more then a few days notify the Post Office to Hold Your Mail and don’t forget to notify the newspaper service, so you will not have papers laying all over your driveway alerting possible thieves to the fact that you are gone.
- If you have a monitored home security and/or fire alarm system, alert the monitoring company that you will be away and when you will be returning. Let them also know if you are going to have a house sitter, dog sitter or whoever else might be popping in that is welcome.
- Consider buying a few plug-in digital light timers to put in the rooms that you would normally have lights coming on and off when you are home. Many of today’s digital timers include a “random” setting that will make it appear someone is home. Digital timers are more precise than old-style mechanical timers.
- As for the central air conditioning, set it at a slightly higher temperature than normal. This will cool the home enough to prevent mold and keep energy costs down.
- Unplug nonessential electrical appliances to save money on your electric bill.
- Don’t forget to contact your bank and credit card companies. Let them know the dates you will be gone and the places you will be visiting so that you will have your credit available to you.
Now you are set and ready to enjoy your vacation with the peace of mind that you have prepared your home for your vacation. Have Fun & Safe Travels
