Time to Make Your Outdoor Beds
Time to make your Outdoor Beds
Last week we gave you tips on how to get your grass carpet ready. In that blog it was mentioned about shrubs, but this week we want to go a little further with the shrubs and also start on the flower beds.
Prepping your flower beds for spring includes cleaning out the mulch like we suggested around the shrubs last week. Cutting away dead flower stalks and limbs and weeding where needed. If crabgrass or Bermuda grass has invaded your flower beds, get out your garden fork and dig deep. You have to get to the roots to get rid of these pesky invaders.
If you have perennials such as day lilies, now is the time to divide them. Think about this like free plants to fill in those dead spots in your garden. This is also the best time to transplants flowers, shrubs and trees. Don’t forget to water appropriately to help the roots to establish themselves and mulch to keep the weeds at bay.
Now is the time to add those “extra throw pillows” to the beds! Head to your favorite gardening store and pick up some of the beauty of the season. You know you want to, so just go do it.
Happy Gardening!
